'Brilliant': Jermaine Jenas raves about 24-year-old Tottenham target after he's subbed on during World Cup final

Jermaine Jenas raved about reported Tottenham Hotspur target Randal Kolo Muani after he was subbed on for France during the BBC’s coverage of the World Cup final yesterday.

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris suffered World Cup agony with France yesterday as they lost out to Argentina and Cristian Romero on penalties.

The final in Qatar will arguably go down as the best ever as France and Argentina drew 3-3 after a thrilling 120 minutes of action.

Didier Deschamps made a bold decision in the 40th minute of the game after he watched his side fall two goals behind in the final.

The Frenchman hooked both Ousmane Dembele and Olivier Giroud and replaced them with Randal Kolo Muani and Marcus Thuram.

The pair made a huge difference for Les Bleus as their high-energy approach led to France getting themselves back into the game.

Kolo Muani won the penalty for Kylian Mbappe’s first goal of the game after forcing Nicolas Otamendi into a mistake.

Thuram set the PSG star up for his second just minutes later and France managed to force extra-time. And Kolo Muani’s display from the bench drew high praise from Jermaine Jenas on BBC One

Jenas raves about Kolo Muani

“He’s made a difference, Kolo Muani. He’s been the one that seems to have it in him. He’s been energetic. He’s been fighting,” Jenas said while co-commentating on the game.

The former Tottenham midfielder also praised the Eintracht Frankfurt striker after he won France’s first penalty of the game.

He added: “It’s poor from Otamendi and brilliant from possibly France’s best player since coming on the pitch, Kolo Muani.

“He should’ve dealt with it straight away. But we mentioned Kolo Muani. He’s had that bite in his game, that aggression, that will to get his team back into it.”

Of course, Jenas argued that Kolo Muani has been France’s best player before Mbappe took matters into his own hands and bagged a brilliant hat-trick.

The sides couldn’t be separated in extra-time, even after Messi grabbed his second goal and Mbappe converted from the spot once again.

Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez proved to be the hero as his mind games in the penalty shootout guided Argentina to victory.

Kolo Muani did manage to convert his effort from the spot, but will be kicking himself after he had an opportunity to win it for France right at the end of normal time.

The 24-year-old certainly made an impact for Les Bleus throughout the tournament after he was called up to the squad to replace the injured Christopher Nkunku.

He’s been linked with a move to north London after facing Tottenham in the Champions League this season. Foot Mercato claims Antonio Conte’s men are interested in signing the World Cup star, but his agent recently confirmed that he will be staying in Germany for ‘at least another year’

Off the back of his performance yesterday, Kolo Muani could attract plenty of interest from top clubs. The Frankfurt striker has scored eight goals and registered 11 assists already in Germany this season.

He would undoubtedly be a brilliant addition to Conte’s squad and would fit the bill as a player who can operate across the front-three.
