'Brilliant decision'; 'Needs games': Some Rangers fans love smart deadline day move
In the final hours of the transfer window, Nikola Katic left Rangers on loan for Hajduk Split (Club website).
The Croatian defender is returning to his homeland to play club football for the first time since he left Slaven Belupo in 2018.

The towering six foot three inch centre-half has a January recall option in his season-long loan deal and many of the Gers are keen to see their man get plenty of game time.
A debilitating ACL injury has seen the Croatian miss a whole year of football for Rangers last season and he’ll now be looking to regain some match fitness.
Katic has made his return to football for Rangers, playing 72 minutes in a 3-2 win over Dumbarton in the Challenge Cup, but now he’s set for even more minutes.
At just 24-years-old there is plenty of time for Katic to re-establish himself at the heart of the Ibrox defence but for now he just needs minutes.
The fans are fully aware of this and will be eagerly awaiting his return to Scotland to see if he can find the form that saw him contribute six goals and 28 clean sheets in his 59 games for the club (Transfermarkt).
Should the Rangers loanee put together a strong run of games between now and January then he could well return to Glasgow early.
That’s what a lot of the fans want to see at least, with many of them delighted that Katic has the chance to rack up some minutes away from Ibrox without leaving permanently.
If Katic is to return in January he’ll face competition from Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Jack Simpson and Leon Balogun.
Many Rangers fans, though, will be keen to see him play and you can see what they had to say here:
Good luck to the Prince, game time is what he needs and he won’t get it here just yet. Also sign a Striker— J55 (@woofly32) August 31, 2021
Agreed. Best defender at the club – very aggressive. Hopefully he does well, stays fit and returns an even better player.— Scott MacFarlane (@thecleanhalo) August 31, 2021
Absolutely brilliant decision to have two potentially good players being like new signings in January, with minutes in their legs.— James McGhee (@chrispacketabc) August 31, 2021
Will miss Niko but I hope he’s got a future at Rangers still
Great move for big Niko. Closer to loved ones, and familiar surroundings should be just the place to him to get back to his best.— Alan Morton (@weebluedev11) August 31, 2021
Good move, big man needs games— Pena_Cartel (@Pena_Cartel) August 31, 2021
Good move for Niko. If it wasn’t for his injury he’d still be part of the 4 this season. Hopefully he gets the game time he needs of he stays fit— (@Andrews22571) August 31, 2021
This is good for Katic, hopefully a spell in his homeland will do him the world of good. 5555— Alan Ramsay (@Ram49817777Alan) August 31, 2021
