Ally McCoist was so impressed by what he saw Miguel Almiron do during the first-half of Newcastle United’s draw with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
McCoist was speaking on TNT Sports (broadcast on 28/11; 20:13) after the Paraguayan set up an amazing chance for Alexander Isak during the opening stages.
Newcastle will feel robbed this morning after a controversial penalty was awarded to PSG in the final minutes of the tie. The Magpies did brilliantly to put themselves on the brink of a huge win in their Champions League group.
Ally McCoist lauds Miguel Almiron
Certainly, Miguel Almiron had a big hand in what they did well in the first-half. Defensively, he was prepared to help out and made an important challenge on Kylian Mbappe on the edge of his own box.

And it was Almiron who had the strike which led to Isak giving Newcastle the lead. But the Swede should have arguably found the back of the net much earlier.
Almiron did superbly to pinch the ball off of Achraf Hakimi in the corner before driving towards the box and finding Isak. However, the striker sent the chance way off target. Ally McCoist was hugely impressed by the work from the 29-year-old.
“Almiron does exceedingly well, exceptionally well. I think he hassles Hakimi into dispossession of the football. And when he passes to Isak, he’s got to score. These chances come few and far between. He’s got to be hitting the target. It’s a brilliant ball in. Newcastle should be 1-0 up,” he told TNT Sports.
Newcastle have their motivation for final game
Newcastle will feel incredibly hard done by by that result. They were on the cusp of a famous win which would have lifted them into the top two ahead of the final match day.
But they can take a lot of positives from the result. They fought so hard throughout the game. And really, they should have been able to see out the victory.
But Eddie Howe will be hoping that the side uses that as fuel for the final game of the group. Certainly, at the very least, a place in the Europa League will be up for grabs against AC Milan.
