Brighton’s Lewis Dunk gives honest verdict on Arsenal’s ‘super aggressive’ performance today

Following a determined win for Arsenal against Brighton Hove Albion today, Lewis Dunk has now shared his verdict on the game.

The Brighton captain was formidable at the back against Arsenal, who did look like they might frustrate Mikel Arteta’s side.

However, Dunk was the first to admit that Arsenal were simply too strong to cope with on the day.

And Arsenal fans may be particularly intrigued to hear Brighton’s Dunk talk about the style which the home side imposed.

Speaking to bEIN SPORTS after the game, Dunk said: “I just think they were probably the better side overall.

“They pressed us super aggressive and we struggled to play the football we usually play, and that’s not usually us.

“We had to do a different side of the game today, we made some clearances, some blocks, we were doing well enough to keep the ball out of the net and then we concede a set piece.

“It’s frustrating and it’s difficult from there, obviously we had a big chance with Pascal [Gross] after going one nil down, and at one all it changes the game and we get an extra boost but it wasn’t meant to be.”

These words will surely be so satisfying for Mikel Arteta to hear given how Brighton have frustrated Arsenal in the past.

Perhaps credit therefore does need to be handed to Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus.

Often criticised for not scoring enough, the Brazilian was on the score sheet again today and also led the press superbly.

Mikel Arteta has probably been quite amused seeing both fan and pundit opinion that Arsenal need an upgrade on Jesus.

And the evidence was there for all to see against an excellent Brighton team today.

Jesus is now on a strong scoring run, one he’ll desperately want to continue over the festive period.

And with Arsenal now top of the Premier League once again after results this weekend, Jesus would surely love a goal at Anfield to see Arsenal top on Christmas Day.

Despite all the good feeling from today’s win, there did appear to be one concern for Arsenal fans during the game.

The home crowd could be heard groaning towards one player in the second half after a few misplaced passes.

And perhaps when Dunk alludes to Brighton nearly getting back into the game in his comments, he was mentioning the moments in which Arsenal did look a bit slack.
