Brighton reportedly agree £18m fee to sign Arsenal and Aston Villa target Trossard

Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed an £18 million fee with Genk to sign winger Leandro Trossard, according to Sky Sports.

They report that Graham Potter is closing in on his second signing of his maiden Seagulls summer, which will break the club’s transfer record.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh apparently cost the previous record £17 million last summer, and Trossard captained Genk to the Belgian title last season, scoring 22 goals and laying on 11 assists – which has encouraged Brighton to break the bank again.

The Argus report that Brighton aren’t alone in the chase for the Belgian, saying that Aston Villa are also keen on the winger, with Arsenal lingering around.

The interest in Trossard’s services is an indicator of his quality and it would be a blow for both Villa and Arsenal if he were to move to the south coast.

For Arsenal, that’s another wide transfer target gone by the wayside in a summer where Yannick Carrasco and Ryan Fraser already look to have got away.

Villa have signed Anwar El Ghazi permanently, but have let Albert Adomah leave, meaning that a high-quality replacement would be ideal, especially one who offers such goal threat.
