This summer Brighton and Hove Albion decided to move on one of their fringe players. Uwe Hunemeier had struggled to establish himself at the Amex after his 2015 arrival. Despite an impressive start to life with the club a serious groin injury ruled him out for eight months things were tough after that.
After just 32 appearances in his first two seasons at the club, the Seagulls were promoted. But despite first-team football being unlikely, the German defender stuck around for the Premier League as a valued member of the squad. However, he featured just once in the top-flight, coming on as a substitute against Everton in October last year.
With that in mind, and with new arrivals making his task for first-team football even more difficult, Hunemeier left this summer.
He joined the side he left to make a move to Brighton, heading back to SC Paderborn in Germany’s second-tier.

Last night he made his second full debut for the club, and it was certainly one to remember.
Paderborn knocked FC Ingolstadt out of the DFB Pokal last night with a 2-1 win. Incredibly, Hunemeier scored both goals.
“From the moment he came, he has been excellent for us. He trains well every single day, he is a valued member of the club because it’s not just about the 11 that play but the squad and good training groups.
“Whatever happens with Uwe, he has been wonderful for me personally and for this club.”

His first was a well-placed volley at the back-post after a corner had broken down. He then headed home his second in an impressive display.
Hunemeier has started both his opening games of the season for his new club on the bench. The former Brighton man will no doubt hope this performance gives him the first-team football he will surely be craving.
