Brighton fans react as goalkeeper Mat Ryan joins Arsenal on loan
Arsenal completed the loan signing of goalkeeper Mat Ryan on Friday morning – and some Brighton fans on Twitter have given a mixed response to the player leaving them.
The Gunners confirmed on their official website that they have signed the 28-year-old from Premier League rivals Brighton on loan for the rest of the season.
With Arsenal recently allowing the sale of Matt Macey to Hibernian, they have moved during the January window to bring in move cover in net.
Bernd Leno is the clear first-choice goalkeeper at the Emirates Stadium and has been one of the standout performers this season for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Runar Alex Runarsson was signed in the summer to be his understudy, but some individual errors in his five appearances this season has prompted Arsenal to bring in another goalkeeper.
Ryan is an experienced goalkeeper that has played 121 Premier League games during his time with Brighton, but he’s been allowed to move after recently losing his position as number one at the Amex Stadium.
The 28-year-old has surely switched the south-coast for North London to provide back-up for Leno, but perhaps he’ll be eyeing European opportunities given that Arsenal are still in the Europa League.
He’s earned 58 senior international caps for Australia and looks like a safe pair of gloves to strengthen the goalkeeper unit.
Here are some Brighton fans discussing Ryan’s temporary exit and it’s certainly a mixed bag:

Sad to see him go but not really much of a loss given his recent form

Whilst he has under performed this season, he has been absolutely outstanding for us in the first 3 seasons in the prem. Unless we have a replacement lined up, I think this is a massive mistake from the club. https://t.co/6D1ZoduBf6

I’m actually sad about this, he genuinely did loads for the club, we were lucky to have him, shame he just wasn’t the same keeper this season, best of luck to you Maty, go win the Europa with arsenal #bhafc https://t.co/cR2H2RuORP
