What Brighton fans did to mock Ben White as Seagulls triumph at Arsenal today
Arsenal compounded their poor week in the Premier League with another poor display and result against Graham Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion this afternoon.
The Gunners were second best pretty much through the entire game and paid the price as goals from Leandro Trossard and Enock Mwepu ensured the Seagulls took all three points. A late effort from Martin Odegaard wasn’t enough for Arsenal to scramble anything from the game, and Tottenham can now cement their top four place with a win at VIlla this evening.
As well as the general performance today, eyes were firmly on former Brighton defender, Ben White. The £50m man has been excellent for Arsenal since arriving. But today wasn’t his best game and the Brighton fans, in true football supporter fashion, were quick to make White feel as small as possible.
The Seagulls fans, with about ten minutes to go, burst out into a chorus of ‘Ben White, what’s the score, Ben White, Ben White what’s the score’. Natural, of course, but still, all a bit humiliating for White.
The England man probably won’t worry too much. After all, he’s moved to a club challenging for Europe while Brighton are firmly mid-table. However, you have to think there was an element of smugness among some of White’s former teammates at full-time.
TBR’s View: White And Arsenal Endure Another Bad Day At The Office
After an excellent few months, shades of the old Arsenal are creeping in with this team. Twice in a week now they’ve been played off the park by mid-table teams and not looked like winning.
Sure, they have big players out injured. However, Mikel Arteta will be keen to address this slump as soon as possible.
Arsenal are still in the top four contention. But things are looking a bit messy now compared to a few weeks back.
