Brentford talisman Neal Maupay made it goal number 21 for the season in last night’s 1-0 Championship win over Aston Villa.
The Frenchman’s late winner ensured an unhappy return to Griffin Park for former Bees boss Dean Smith.
Back in December, the striker refused to rule out a reunion with Smith at Villa Park, according to The Independent.
In the same piece he did state his happiness at Brentford, but naturally, the lure of playing for Villa in the future could be a big pull.
If last night was an audition then Maupay passed with absolute aplomb.
According to Who Scored, the 22-year-old was the Star Man for the Bees during the vital win.
The football statistics website confirmed a pass success rating of 89%, whilst he also had five shots during a lively performance.
He was rewarded for his impressive perseverance in the 90th minute, handing Smith a cruel reminder of the quality which he possesses.
Maupay looks like a player who could definitely play in the Premier League.
Last season he netted 13 goals during his maiden campaign in England and this season he has really adapted to life in the Championship.
It doesn’t look as though Villa or Brentford will win promotion this season.
If Villa land Maupay in the summer then you would have to fancy them to there, or thereabouts, next time around.
