Brentford fans react as Newcastle and Everton reportedly eye Pontus Jansson

Brentford captain Pontus Jansson is reportedly attracting interest from Everton, Newcastle and Leicester City after his contract situation with the Bees came to light – and Brentford fans have had their say.

Jansson, 30, has been in incredible form for Brentford since Thomas Frank’s side were promoted to the Premier League. The Sweden international has played all 16 Premier League games, being subbed just once.

On Friday night, Jansson scored in a crucial 2-1 win over Watford as Brentford came from behind to beat the Hornets at home. But the ex-Leeds defender is out of contract at Brentford at the end of the season.

The Guardian report that his contract situation has placed Newcastle, Everton and Leicester on red alert ahead of a potential free transfer. A cut-price move in January could be on the cards.

What do Brentford fans think as Newcastle and Everton eye Jansson?

Newcastle certainly need a centre-back – their 4-0 defeat to Brendan Rodgers’ side proving as much on Sunday. They have also been linked with the likes of Burnley duo James Tarkowski and Ben Mee.

Everton, meanwhile, are in need of reinforcements after a poor start. Whether they need central defenders is another question. On a free transfer, or a reduced fee in January, Jansson could be a brilliant signing.

Brentford fans know this and have reacted on Twitter by urging their club to hand the skipper a new contract. They are desperate to see Jansson remain at Brentford beyond the end of the season.
