Brendan Rodgers should bring teenager Anthony Ralston back into the first-team fold

Celtic have had plenty of problems at the back this season. A shortage of centre-backs has been the most alarming. However, once again they have looked weak at right-back. Swedish international Mikael Lustig has not been at his best whilst Cristian Gamboa has never impressed at Parkhead.

Celtic do however have a young talent worthy of a chance but Brendan Rodgers seems to have written him off for the time being.

Anthony Ralston played five times for Celtic last season. He even scored his first goal for the club against Kilmarnock. He featured in the infamous thrashing against Paris Saint-Germain, giving Neymar a few bruises to worry about the next morning.

Unfortunately, a knee injury set him back not long after. However, he was handed a new deal in December, running until 2022.

But upon his return to fitness, Brendan Rodgers had no time for him. Ralston was eventually sent to Dundee United on loan in March where he thrived at the tail-end of the Terrors season.

Despite his good form at Tannadice, Ralston has been cast aside so far this season. The 19-year-old, who was linked with both Tottenham and Everton 13 months ago, is playing with Celtic’s youth instead.

That is despite their clearly being an opportunity for him to play some more regular football in the Celtic first-team.

Ralston turns 20 next month and will want to be playing first-team football on a regular basis. Celtic boss Rodgers should start giving him the chance or consider letting him out on loan instead.
