Liverpool are reportedly in contact with the agent of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

The print edition of Libero (15/04/2020, pg 23) reported this week, as relayed by SempreInter that Inter are now hoping to renew the contract of Brozovic to remove his current €60 million (£52m) release clause.

Liverpool are said to be keen on Brozovic as a potential replacement for Adam Lallana, who is set to leave on a free transfer.

But it is not the first time that Liverpool have eyed Brozovic as a potential replacement for an English midfielder.

However, on the previous occasion, it was for a Liverpool legend.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Brozovic was considered a potential replacement for Steven Gerrard by Brendan Rodgers in the 2013 January transfer window.

The Dinamo Zagreb star, along with Ander Herrera and Isco, was being eyed up as a potential recruit to eventually replace the Liverpool captain, who was approaching the end of his Anfield shelf-life.

In the end, Brozovic remained at Dinamo for two more years, joining Inter Milan in January 2015. Liverpool signed Philippe Coutinho that January transfer window, whilst Gerrard nearly led Liverpool to a first Premier League title the following season.

Now just over seven years later, it appears that Liverpool might be on the hunt for the Croatian once again.
