Brendan Rodgers needs to see Anthony Ralston as his new first-choice right-back

Celtic are now on their winter break, with their next game not until the 19th of January, when they face Airdrie in the Scottish FA Cup. They did not have the end to 2018 that they would have wanted, after losing 1-0 to Rangers in the Old Firm derby.

It was a poor display from Celtic, with several players culpable for the defeat.

One of those most to blame was Swedish right-back, Mikael Lustig. He was torn apart by Ryan Kent for the majority of the game. On top of that, he lacked composure when dealing with Rangers’ high-press.

In the end, he was hauled off injured, replaced by Anthony Ralston. Celtic fans would be right to wonder why the youngster has not been playing more regularly.

When Ralston came into the starting XI earlier in the month he scored against Motherwell. His performance was superb and was again when he faced Dundee.

But he was then pushed out of the team and Celtic must wonder why Ralston was not backed. Lustig has been struggling for some time and Brendan Rodgers needs to pull the trigger on the 20-year-old now he is fully fit and firing.
