Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he expects Leeds United target Demarai Gray to stay with the club.

The former Birmingham City man has dropped down the pecking order under Rodgers at the King Power and looked like he was one his way out of the club this summer, with Leeds among the clubs said to be interested.

However, Leicester boss Rodgers has been speaking (BT Sport) about the winger ahead of the deadline and has admitted he now expects Gray to stay with the Foxes for now at least.

“He’s training and we haven’t had any interest in Demarai. He’s working hard to get back into the squad again. The squad has started the season well, so that’s been difficult for him. So he’s very much in the squad and unless something changes on Monday he’ll continue with his work here at Leicester.”

The news will surely put an end to any speculation surrounding Gray and Leeds. Furthemore, Leeds are also set to sign Brazilian midfielder Raphina today, signalling they have got their man in terms of attacking midfield.

Gray was part of the Leicester team that won the Premier League under Claudio Ranieri and may well look for a January move should he stay put come 11pm tonight.

Despite Rodgers’ comments, it doesn’t seem like Gray is going to be getting much game time in the coming months at Leicester.

Gray will be sat around and in and around the squad if injuries strike but you get the impression we could be talking about him come January once again.

It’s a shame as well. He has bags of talent and has just fallen off radar a bit. With a bit of luck, Gray can get back to his best in the coming 12 months.
