Brendan Rodgers comments on reported interest in Liverpool player

Brendan Rodgers has been quoted by Sky Sports as saying that Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is a “fantastic player” amid reports that the Leicester City boss wants to sign the Englishman for a second time.

Lallana, 31, has starred for Liverpool over the past six years since his £25million move from Southampton. The England international, though, is out of contract this summer – despite clocking up 175 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.

Rodgers signed Lallana during his stint as Liverpool manager and is now reportedly interested in taking him to Liverpool. However, The Telegraph claims West Ham, Tottenham and Arsenal are also interested in nabbing Lallana.

Asked whether reports of a move to sign Lallana for a second time could occur in the summer, Rodgers described Lallana as “fantastic” and stated that the midfielder will be weighing up his options. He did not rule out a move for the Liverpool star.

“Adam is a fantastic player and one I brought into Liverpool,” Rodgers said. “I have been aware of his talents since he was a young player at Southampton. He has done brilliantly [at Liverpool] and I’m sure he will be weighing up his options.

“But I don’t need to speak about that now. We’ve spoken about that all through January. I don’t need to speak about the summer transfer window. I would only add he is a top-class player.”

TBR’s view – Lallana would be perfect for Leicester

That is, if James Maddison leaves the Foxes to go to one of the bigger Premier League clubs this summer. The ex-Norwich man has been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs this season.

As cover for Maddison, he would be an excellent addition – especially given the connection between himself and manager Rodgers. Even if Maddison stays, he could play a crucial role and act as a tutor for the burgeoning playmaker.
