Bree needs to seek January loan move to salvage Aston Villa career

With just five appearances to his name this season, James Bree’s career at Aston Villa seems to have come to a standstill.

The young right-back joined from Barnsley in January 2017 but has failed to make the desired impact in nearly two years with the Villans.

He is currently out injured with a muscle strain but he should ask for a loan move away from the West Midlands when he recovers.

At such a vital stage in his career, Bree needs to be playing regular games to ensure he reaches his potential.

As a teenager, Bree was a regular at Barnsley, playing each week at right-back in League One and the Championship.

But the 20-year-old is currently finding it hard to replace Alan Hutton and Neil Taylor at Aston Villa.

In almost two years with Aston Villa, Bree has played just 16 Championship matches which has stunted his development.

Whenever he has featured in claret and blue, he does not look as sharp as Aston Villa fans might have hoped.

If the youngster asks for a loan move in January, possibly dropping down a division to League One, then he could return to Aston Villa next summer with more experience under his belt.

With Hutton coming towards the end of his career, Bree should be eyeing his spot next season but he may need a temporary stint away from Aston Villa to salvage his career.
