Arsenal returned to winning ways on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 Premier League victory over Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners saw their 10-match unbeaten run come to an end against Liverpool last week, but they made amends in their next game.

Following a goalless first half, Arsenal took the lead in the 56th minute when Bukayo Saka slotted home from Nuno Tavares’ through-ball.

Mikel Arteta’s charges then made it two just ten minutes later, Takehiro Tomiyasu crossing for Gabriel Martinelli to volley home.

Newcastle, with new manager Eddie Howe in the dugout, had some good chances to get on the scoresheet too.

Fabian Schar headed over in the 27th minute, while Jonjo Shelvey weighed in with a superb effort in the 31st minute.

It looked to be heading into the net, but Aaron Ramsdale stuck out a hand to push the ball onto the bar and over.

BBC Sport pundit Carlton Cole was impressed with Ramsdale’s save, which came at a time when the Magpies were having a good spell.

“Another breath-taking save from Ramsdale,” he said on Radio 5 Live (27/11, 13:05).

“Newcastle have come on to the scene now, they’re trying to soak up the pressure and keep the midfield condensed.

“That way they can catch them on the counter attack. It’s really working for them because Arsenal haven’t been able to break them down.”

Looking back, that save was so crucial at 0-0 – it could have easily gone in and Arsenal would’ve been chasing the game.

Ramsdale is proving such a safe pair of hands and it’s no wonder he’s become number one – and a fan favourite – so quickly.
