Gerson has been a crucial signing for Flamengo over the past 12 months, anchoring Jorge Jesus’ side as they won the Copa Libertadores and reached the final of the Club World Cup. Now, the player’s father has hinted at a move to north London.

Gerson, 22, has already chanced his arm in Europe with Italian side Roma. The uncapped Brazilian midfielder managed 42 appearances for the Serie A outfit, but has since returned to Flamengo and impressed over the past 12 months.

A holding midfielder, Gerson is renowned for lung-busting stamina but also his ability to dictate the tempo of play. The Brazil Under-20 star has a contract with Flamengo until December 2023, but a move to England could be on the cards.

His father and agent, Marcos Santos, told Yahoo that Arsenal, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund all want to sign the midfielder this summer – claiming Arsenal Head of Football Raul Sanllehi tried to sign Gerson at Barcelona.

“Nobody knew about Arsenal, but now that I’m telling you, everyone will know,” Santos said, when discussing Arsenal interest. He also confirmed Tottenham and Dortmund’s interest: “Everyone you mention there is true. But they have only asked.”

TBR’s view – Both clubs are seemingly after a central midfielder

Arsenal have been strongly linked with a number of anchoring midfielders this summer, in the form of Mady Camara, Thomas Partey and even recently-announced Watford signing, Pape Gueye.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are on the crusade in a bid to replace Tanguy Ndombele – or at least bring some competition to the club in order to get the best out of the faltering Frenchman. Gerson could be an ideal buy for both clubs.

Starring against Liverpool in a Flamengo side that took Jurgen Klopp’s men to extra time in the Club World Cup, Gerson is a top, top player. It remains to be seen how much Gerson would cost, given Flamengo paid just £10.3million last summer (Goal).
