Brazilian side Flamengo are trying to put themselves into a position to buy Tottenham defender Emerson Royal ahead of next season.
Royal has played a key role under Ange Postecoglou this season due to the amount of injuries the club has had.
The Brazilian has played as a right-back, a wing-back and also a centre-back for Postecoglou and has impressed with his versatility along the way.
However, his form has attracted attention in his homeland, with Flamengo apparently keen on the defender.

Flamengo keen on Tottenham’s Emerson Royal
According to a report from PremierLeagueBrasil, Flamengo have approached Tottenham over a deal to bring Royal back to Brazil.
Flamengo are apparently aware of the defender’s willingness to explore a move back to his homeland at some point but know that it would take big money right now.
Spurs paid around £26m to sign Royal in the first place and he’ll also be on good money in terms of wages, which Brazilian sides will struggle to match.
Further, Tottenham are unlikely to want to lose another defender this month. With Micky van de Ven only just back from injury and Cristian Romero also out, losing someone else seems odd.
Further, Eric Dier could also be on his way to Bayern Munich, further depleting the ranks.
No chance Royal leaves
Flamengo can track Emerson Royal all they want but it would be truly amazing of Tottenham agreed to letting him go.
The only way this would happen is if the Brazilian side put up the money to give Spurs back what they paid or more, and Royal pushes to leave.
Both of those scenarios seem unlikely so with that in mind, we’re likely to see Royal remain in north London.
Right now, Ange Postecoglou needs to keep his squad together as much as he can. Losing a first-team regular, then, should not be on his agenda.
