Everton are reportedly set to step up their permanent pursuit of Andre Gomes. The Portuguese midfielder has become a key member of Marco Silva’s side and, perhaps, the team’s best player in a mixed season.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Everton sporting director Marcel Brands is set to head to Barcelona in the coming weeks to put a deal together. As reported by The Times, Everton paid a £2 million fee to sign him on loan and they believe Gomes wants to make the deal permanent. Mundo Deportivo have recently reported that he would cost around €25 million (£21.9 million).
However, that was at the start of December. Now, perhaps he will have doubts.

Gomes has impressed at Everton this season, despite having the off bad day. He clearly has no interest in heading back to Barcelona. However, other teams will surely have him on their radar and given events at Everton recently, the temptation will surely be present.
Everton have been in poor form recently and there have been continuing rumblings regarding the future of his countryman Silva in the dugout.
Should a team playing in Europe next term come in with an offer as well, then perhaps Goodison Park will not look as appealing.
Everton can hopefully turn around their current run of form, with a little help from an improved Gomes, over the coming weeks.
They might need to, if they wish to keep the midfielder beyond May.
