Brands explains why Silva will be given time as part of major Everton overhaul

Marcel Brands has preached the importance of stability at Everton this summer after a season in which Marco Silva’s job security has been a talking point.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Brands has hit out at the host of Premier League clubs who have changed their manager this season and expressed his desire to keep Silva at Goodison Park.

Talking about his future plans for Everton, Brands said: “Definitely not to break everything up and bring everyone new in. If you want a bright future you can only do that step-by-step and have a decent plan.

“One of the most difficult things is to find the right manager, if you find him, give him the time. I am not the guy – and have never done so – who changes the whole direction of the club.

“In England, fourteen managers were sacked and how many clubs are playing that much differently – except for Manchester United?”

Everton do indeed need the stability that Brands talks about, and everyone connected with the club must hope that Silva is the right man to oversee long-term change at the club.

He has not done that in England so far, but there have been flickers of the Everton he wants to build in 2019 – dangerous, energetic and capable of getting the fans on side.

With the backing of Brands, Silva needs to prove himself able to repay that faith.
