Newcastle United ended up comfortably clear of relegation after a hard-fought season in the Premier League. After a difficult start, they improved in 2019 and ended up finishing 13th in the table.
One player who had a breakthrough campaign for the club was Sean Longstaff.

The 21-year-old has been hotly tipped by Newcastle fans for a number of years but has had to wait for an extended chance in the first-team. Rafa Benitez gave it to him from January onward and Longstaff put in a series of excellent performances for the Magpies.
Unfortunately, his season was cut short in March. He picked up a knee ligament injury that month which denied him an England under-21 call-up. He is now expected to be back in action for pre-season and sent out this tweet earlier in the week:
Newcastle fans will be pleased to hear that Longstaff is fired up for next season. Whilst the Toon’s pressing issue right now needs to be securing the long-term future of Rafa Benitez they will also be looking to improve on last season.
Longstaff getting back to full fitness will be a huge help.
