A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to rejoice in the latest fitness update regarding Toffees midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

Everton brought the 24-year-old to Goodison Park from German club Mainz in the summer for an undisclosed fee reported by BBC Sport as being £25million.

Unfortunately, Gbamin has endured an injury-plagued maiden season with the Toffees, making just two appearances this term and having to have two operations on a thigh injury.

The Ivory Coast international is currently undergoing rehabilitation at home using equipment delivered by Everton after their Finch Farm training ground closed in March in wake of the global health crisis.

“He is working tirelessly,” Everton physio Adam Newall told the official club website. “Sometimes I have to rein him in a bit. We are pleased with where he’s at in his recovery.

“With the surgery he had, the idea is to slowly increase the flexibility in the muscle and progressively ramp up its strength.

“The intention is to have a three-week period of reintegration (following the players’ return to Finch Farm), then we expect him to start joining the squad for training sessions.

“In an ideal world, I’d be working with him at Finch Farm and watching him do every single thing – but after a week or so we got round most of the obstacles.”

With Gbamin having endured such a difficult time with injuries following his move to Everton, the update on his fitness was welcomed by Toffees fans.
