Borussia Dortmund sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from St-Etienne for an undisclosed fee believed to be around 13 million Euros.

The 24 year-old striker finished second top scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 19 goals. The Gabon international also won the Ligue 1 award for best African player.

A former Milan trainee, Aubameyang played on loan at Dijon, Lille, Monaco and St-Etienne before joining Les Verts permanently in December 2011 and went on to score 37 goals in 87 games for the club.

Jurgen Klopp may well have found himself a gem in Aubameyang. With his blistering pace and eye for a goal, the front-man who can play anywhere across the front three, will fit right in with Dortmund’s attacking, high tempo team.

If Robert Lewandowski stays Aubameyang may way find himself on the left-wing with Reus and Blaszczykowski making up the rest of an an attacking 3 behind the striker. In this position the youngster will be expected to contribute not only goals, but also assists. In this position he could undoubtedly terrorise full backs with his pace, but it remains to be seen if he has the creativity to regularly set up goals for his team mates.

In my opinion Aubameyang is a great addition to Klopp’s modern squad. It may take sometime to adjust himself but Klopp has shown his eye for a transfer with the likes of Reus and I would expect Aubameyang to follow in these footsteps.
