Borna Barisic deserves credit for winning back Steven Gerrard’s attention

Back in April, it was being reported that Steven Gerrard was furious with three Rangers first-team players.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, the Rangers boss was fuming with the level of performance put in by Eros Grezda, Kyle Lafferty and Borna Barisic in a training ground friendly against Liverpool’s under-23s.

Grezda has not played since and the club have actively been trying to sell the Albanian international. Lafferty had his contract terminated in July and he went on to join Norwegian side Sarpsborg.

So it is great credit to left-back Barisic that he has turned his career around at Ibrox. He found his way back into the Rangers fold by the final game of last season.

The Croatian is still having to share left-back duties with Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday but he has shown big improvements this term.

His excellent performance against Feyenoord in the Europa League in midweek saw him in the competitions team of the week. His free-kick goal against St Mirren earlier this season also saw him win over plenty of Rangers fans.

Whilst Grezda is public enemy number one at Ibrox and Lafferty got the boot, Barisic has done well to work his way back into favour.

That must be appreciated by Rangers fans and, hopefully, Barisic can continue to impress at Ibrox.
