This week has seen Tottenham Hotspur linked with two La Liga based strikers. Firstly, El Gol Digital reported that Spurs were keen on the Espanyol striker Borja Iglesias. Then, El Pais suggested that Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez was on their radar.
Both are in good form this season. Iglesias has seven goals in 12 league games this season. Uruguayan forward Gomez has scored six in 10 games. The pair also both have respective release clauses, although Gomez’s £43.7m price-tag is significantly higher than Iglesias’ £25 million one.
That is not where the links stop for the pair. The fact is., Gomez’s presence at Celta is a key reason why Iglesias is now thriving in Barcelona.

Iglesias spent last season on loan at Real Zaragoza. He scored an impressive 23 goals in 43 games for the Galicians. That form no doubt had his parent club in a predicament, that parent club being Celta Vigo.
However, they already had the aforementioned Gomez and Spanish international Iago Aspas thriving up top and it was therefore decided that Iglesias should head elsewhere.
He joined Espanyol and has been in fine form since. The presence of Gomez meant Iglesias never made it at his Galician home. However, he is now forging a name for himself in Catalonia. Tottenham fans will know that the cheaper option of the two, Iglesias, is the most likely. But Gomez has played a big part in pushing the striker to his current level.
