Rangers are reportedly on the hunt for midfield reinforcements for the upcoming season and have identified South African star Bongani Zungu as a potentially perfect Ibrox signature.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is seeking some extra legs in midfield and a deal for Zungu to head to Ibrox is seemingly edging closer to completion.
Recent reports have suggested that Rangers are close to a move for the 27-year-old talent, who has been compared to both Paul Pogba and Yaya Toure by the media in his homeland.
The Daily Record reported that Rangers have agreed a £3.5 million deal with the French side Amiens for his transfer, with Zungu rejecting moves to Spanish and French top-tier clubs in order to link up with Gerrard at Rangers.
Now, reports in France have given a big hint that the deal is edging closer to completion.
Le11 Amienois is reporting that Zungu will not feature in this weekend’s friendly against Chambly as he is ‘close to joining’ Rangers.
Rangers will undoubtedly be facing work permit applications to ensure they sign Zungu. Zungu is a regular for the Bafana Bafana but considering South Africa’s current lowly world ranking of 75 the Glasgow side may have a battle on their hands which could undoubtedly delay the transfer.
Other than that, it would appear that everything is in order for Zungu to become a Rangers player as soon as possible.
