Bobby Zamora has advice for Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho regarding Gareth Bale

Bobby Zamora has told Stadium Astro that Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho needs to start Gareth Bale for at least the next four matches in order to allow him to develop some momentum – after a decent cameo on Sunday.

Bale’s struggles since the 31-year-old returned to Spurs on loan from Real Madrid have been well-documented. A lack of game time and then when given the chance, he has been poor – failing to live up to his previous self.

But on Thursday night, he probably enjoyed the best moment since returning to Spurs – scoring a brilliant goal in the first knockout round of the Champions League. Cutting inside, he lashed a ball into the top corner in Hungary.

He did not start on Sunday and Mourinho explained that was down to fitness, but when he came on – he was excellent. It was his corner that Lucas Moura scored from, before hitting the bar. Zamora wants him to start.

“I’d like to think those last few games warrant him a run in the team,” Zamora said. “I think he needs to start four, five, six games and let him show us what he can do.

“It’s hard to start one game and then sit on the bench for two,” Ex-Tottenham striker Zamora continued. “It’s not nice. He’s got the experience, he’s fit enough. He deserves a run in the team.”

TBR’s view – Zamora right, Bale can help change Tottenham luck

Overnight, Bale seems to have finally arrived at the party. His performance against Wolfsberger was excellent, not only did he score but he also picked out Son Heung-min who scored the opener in the 4-1 win.

He changed the game when he came on. He put West Ham on the back foot and had his volley crashed into the top corner, fans would have been raving over the return of Bale. He is edging closer to his best, and game time is crucial.

It has been an excellent few days for Bale, but another start on Thursday and then perhaps a second successive start against Burnley on Sunday could make this next seven days a crucial week for the 83-time Wales international.
