Tottenham Hotspur appear set to miss out on defender Nathan Ake, who seemingly prefers a return to Chelsea.
According to a report from The Daily Express, the Netherlands international is the subject of interest from his former club, who supposedly have a £40 million buy-back option over him.

The centre-half has been in fine form for Bournemouth this season, and has really progressed nicely at the Vitality Stadium since securing a £20 million move from Stamford Bridge in 2017 (BBC Sport).
Ake has caught the eye with his ability to operate as part of a back four or a back five, and his comfortability on the ball.
Chelsea, of course, can now make signings in January after their transfer ban was halved by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
TBR’s view – Chelsea’s gain would be Tottenham’s loss
Chelsea beating Spurs to Ake would be a blow for the Lilywhites, who really need to be thinking about a long-term replacement for Jan Vertonghen, whose current deal expires next summer.

Ake has been around for quite a while now and is still only 24.
He is at a very good level for his age and could potentially become top class.
The fact he is left-footed as well makes him particularly useful in terms of balance.
It looks like Chelsea will win this race, meaning Tottenham – linked as recently as earlier this month (Sky Sports) – will need to look elsewhere for a new central defender.
