Newcastle United have loaned out their precocious talent Elias Sorensen to Blackpool until the end of the season.

Manager Rafael Benitez has so far resisted any temptation to fast-track the young Dane into his first-team.

The pressure had been on for the manager to hand Sorensen a chance, especially in the early parts of the season when the Magpies were struggling to get results and score goals.

The 19-year-old is considered one of Newcastle’s best prospects, and had scored 19 goals for the U23s before his move to Bloomfield Road.

Can Sorensen follow Longstaff example?

Many Newcastle fans will be filled with hope seeing Sorensen pitch up at League One side Blackpool, for the simple fact that Sean Longstaff enjoyed a good spell there.

Longstaff is now a fully-fledged member of Benitez’s first-team squad, having taken advantage of Ki Sung-yueng’s absence for the side, and Mo Diame and Jonjo Shelvey’s injury problems.

Longstaff made 45 appearances for the Tangerines in 2017/18 and scored nine goals.

The move clearly benefited him and readied him for his chance in the Premier League.

Having been developing in the academy for the last two years, this is Sorensen’s first loan move, but it could be his last if he continues to score goals and make himself unavoidable for Benitez.
