Blackburn Rovers under-23 boss Billy Barr has been singing the praises of Everton talent Ellis Simms after his side lost to Everton’s youngsters this week.
Everton under-23s welcomed Blackburn to Goodison Park on Monday night and won the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Lewis Gibson and Simms.

For Simms, it would have been a special moment. He was briefly on the books at Blackburn following his release by Manchester City in 2017 before signing on with Everton that summer.
It was a tight affair but Everton deserved the win and Barr had plenty of praise for the Toffees talent. The former Halifax Town stalwart spoke of Simms’ lethal finishing in front of goal to the Lancashire Telegraph.
“Then we got caught out by something we knew was coming, the ball gets played in behind and the lad that finishes it, he scored 40 the other season for the Under-18s, so he knows how to score goals. He only needs that sniff.”
TBR’s View
There is no doubt that Everton could have found a gem in Simms.
The 18-year-old had a sensational under-18 season last term. He scored 32 goals in 21 appearances in the under-18 Premier League and found the net five times in four games in the FA Youth Cup.
It certainly seems as though the teenage striker is a name to look out for at Everton as he continues to impress with the under-23 team.
