Leeds United loanee Barry Douglas starred in the Championship on Tuesday night – and some Blackburn Rovers fans on Twitter were left raving about his performance.
The 31-year-old helped Leeds secure promotion from the Championship last season, but he dropped back down to the second-tier in the summer by joining Blackburn on a season-long loan and that will take him up to the end of his contract at Elland Road.
Douglas started in Blackburn’s impressive 3-0 away victory against Preston North End last night, with his side moving up to 10th in the league table.
The Scottish left-back was defensively solid by helping to keep a clean sheet, but it was his attacking play from the full-back position that caught the eye and he put in some dangerous crosses.
He’s an experienced defender that knows how to get promoted from the Championship after previously enjoying success with Leeds and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and he brings huge quality to the Blackburn XI.
Leeds currently have Stuart Dallas as their first-choice left-back, but keeping Douglas around for another year wouldn’t have been the worst choice.
The left-footer has returned to the Championship to play regularly and will be hoping his side can push for the promotion spots.
A selection of Blackburn supporters on social media were praising Douglas for his latest contribution:
So many but Douglas for me 🔵⚪

Douglas for me, had that left wing to himself all night and got forward very well.

Most complete performance in years that… Barry Douglas and Ben Brereton 😍😍😍

Superb from rovers all round tonight. Douglas just shades Brereton and Holtby for MoM but could've been anyone from 5. Frustrating as can be this good – important now to out a decent run together #rovers

One of those nights where you’d expect us to come out on top given the circumstances but that was savage.
Thomas Kaminski could have nipped off for a nap so little was he required. Wharton impressive when called upon and Barry Douglas a really promising attacking outlet.

Holtby, Brereton, Wharton, Douglas, Gallagher. That's the tweet! #Rovers

Loads of good games tonight. Brereton and Gallagher on the wings worked for a change. Nyambe and Douglas excellent going forward. Holtby immense and Rothwell made that second. Delighted for Dolan getting that goal. Scary to think Dack & Travis are still to come back.
