‘Bizarre’: Pundit says £15m Tottenham player’s positioning is so weird sometimes

Say what you will about Ange Postecoglou’s style of play at Tottenham, it’s unique.

Indeed, we’ve never really seen a manager with this kind of approach in the Premier League before.

Sure, we’ve had attack-minded managers like Marcelo Bielsa, but this relentless gung-ho style is unlike anything we’ve seen in this league.

Speaking on The Gab and Juls Show, Don Hutchison and Gabriel Marcotti have been discussing the positioning of some Spurs players in this system, and they noted that Destiny Udogie’s positioning is sometimes very strange.

Udogie’s positioning is bizarre

Hutchison and Marcotti shared their verdict on how the £15m man was playing against Man City.

“Poor Udogie, at one point he’s playing as a number 10,” Marcotti said.

“His positioning was bizarre wasn’t it? Yeah,” Hutchison added.

“Yeah, but that’s what he’s being told to do, Ange has his own way of approaching football,” Marcotti responded.

Incredible to watch

Using your left-back as a quasi-number 10 probably isn’t advisable against the best team in the world, but, my word, is it fun to watch.

You can argue the idea of pragmatism vs expressionism in football until the cows come home in terms of getting results, but in terms of pure entertainment, there may not be a team in the world that is easier on the eye than Tottenham Hotspur under Ange Posteoglou right now.

No matter who is fit and available, Spurs approach every game with this up-and-at-them attitude, and they will not relent no matter who their opposition is.

Destiny Udogie’s positioning can look a little strange at times, especially if you’re a bit of a traditionalist, but he’s been utterly brilliant this season, and his attacking intent hasn’t taken away from his ability to be a real presence defensively either.
