Rangers continued to maintain a title challenge in the Scottish Premiership this weekend with a 5-0 hammering of Hamilton Academical. Steven Gerrard’s men dominated the game and a goal apiece from Ryan Jack, Jermain Defoe, Scott Arfield, James Tavernier and Kyle Lafferty secured all three points.

It was a display that had former Ibrox striker Billy Dodds over the moon. The former Scotland international spent four years in Glasgow and told BBC Sportsround that Rangers were ‘emphatic’ in the game.

“They were emphatic. They’ve got this ruthless streak about them just now, maybe since they drew 0-0 with St Johnstone. That result apart, they look clinical, they want to destroy teams, and five different goalscorers as well.”

Rangers are certainly racking up the goals. After destroying Kilmarnock in midweek this was a different effort. The fact there were five different goalscorers and none of them being Alfredo Morelos also bodes well for the team. After 0-0 draws against Kilmarnock and St Johnstone accusations were made of Rangers being too reliant on the Colombian.

However, Rangers proved they can do the business without Morelos and that desire to destroy teams could come in handy when it comes to goal difference if Rangers can reel in Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Hopefully, there is more to come
