Bielsa worried about wingers and defenders after Raphinha and Ayling injury blows
Leed United are still waiting for their first win of the Premier League season after a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park against Newcastle last night.
Despite taking the lead through Raphinha, the Whites couldn’t see the game out and a goal from Allan Saint-Maximin was enough for the home side to take a share of the spoils.
Leeds are struggling to replicate their performances of last season as things stand. Injuries have not helped their cause, though. The likes of Robin Koch and Diego Llorente have been missing, while Jack Harrison also missed out last night.
And during the game, both Raphinha and Luke Ayling suffered potential injuries which could disrupt their campaigns.
Bielsa, then, admitted to being a bit worried about the situation.
Bielsa frets over Leeds United injuries
The Argentinian is never one to be really flustered. And while he wasn’t in full panic mode yet, Bielsa did tell Leeds Live that the injuries to Ayling and Raphinha could make things tough.
“He has a problem in his hip,” Bielsa said of Raphinha.
“We have four centre-backs and the option of Ayling is No. 5. If we have to resolve the absence of four of them, it’s going to be complicated. The same in the position of the wingers where we count on James, Harrison, Raphinha and Summerville and to lose two of them will still make it very difficult to resolve.”
But rather than being fully downbeat, the Leeds coach did offer some glimmer of hope.
“I always have confidence that in the end solutions will appear,” Bielsa added.
TBR’s View: Leeds in trouble if trend continues
While the first win will come in due course, Leeds do have problems if their players keep on picking up knocks.
Raphinha and Ayling are both big players as well. It’s not like they are losing players who can be replaced easily in the XI.
Bielsa, then, will hope the knocks are nothing serious and that both can be back fit and firing in no time.
