Marcelo Bielsa has suggested that Mateusz Klich’s physical numbers have improved as the season has gone on, as he admitted that the Leeds United midfielder’s performances have been sporadic of late – in comments reported by Leeds Live.

Like many of the Leeds squad, Klich was hugely impressive in the opening weeks of the season. The 30-year-old had scored three and contributed five assists before the turn of the year.

Unfortunately, he has not added to either tally since then. And it does appear that he has not been able to prove quite as influential for the Whites in recent times.

Bielsa conceded that he has not been quite as consistent. But judging by his assessment of his recent form, that is not down to a lack of trying.

“For Klich, in the first half of the game that have been played so far, he had his best performances, but his physical numbers were not ideal. In the second half of the season that he has played, his physical values improved with regards to what he’s able to do, but his performances have been more sporadic,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live.

“All the players have better or worse performances, better or worse physical performances and more or less progression in each game. This Premier League is difficult to be able to play good in all three aspects of physical, mental and football-wise throughout the whole season.

“I’ve always said Klich is a complete player that can play all three positions in midfield.”

TBR View: Klich good enough to bounce back

Klich has endured dips in form in previous years at Elland Road. He made a sensational start to Bielsa’s first campaign before going off the boil a little later on.

Crucially, he bounced back from that rut. And having already proved that he is more than good enough to play in the Premier League, there is every reason to believe that Klich will get back on track at some stage in the near future.
