Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Jamie Shackleton has moved up the pecking order at Leeds United now.
Shackleton played 11 times for Leeds in the Premier League last term, although most those appearances came as a substitute.
The 21-year-old’s energy was a useful asset, as is his versatility.
And Bielsa has hinted that Shackleton may be seen more regularly this season, as he has increased his place in the hierarchy of Leeds’ squad.
“Shackleton can play as a full-back or as an interior midfielder and a year on increases his hierarchy within the group,” Bielsa said.
Big opportunity
With Leeds not yet signing a midfielder, Shackleton could indeed be in with a chance of featuring regularly.

Leeds still have gaps in midfield to fill, and while the youngster may not begin the season as a permanent starter, he does appear to have a real chance of breaking through.
Leeds kick their season off tomorrow, when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening day.
Leeds’ results over pre-season actually weren’t the most encouraging.
However, after finishing last season so strongly, they still have momentum on their side – and it will be interesting to see how fast they start the campaign, with a year’s worth of Premier League football under their belts now.
