Marcelo Bielsa has claimed that he saw a progression in both Jack Harrison and Daniel James after Leeds United suffered a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in their latest Premier League clash on Sunday – in comments reported by Leeds Live.

Leeds ultimately endured a disappointing evening in North London. Second-half goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon saw Spurs snatch the three points.

The result was all the more difficult for the Whites to stomach after they had produced a stunning performance in the first-half.

And they got their rewards shortly before the break. Harrison did brilliantly to beat Emerson Royal down the left wing.

And James did just as well to get on the end of his cross to tuck home the game’s opening goal. It was also James’ first for the club.

Both players have come in for criticism this season. Harrison, in particular, had not looked the same player as the one who was outstanding in his first Premier League campaign.

James has been brighter. But having arrived for a big fee in the summer, more has been expected of the Wales international.

You could certainly argue that both however, produced their best performances of the season in the 2-1 loss.

And Bielsa suggested that both took a step forward with their displays.

“I notice a progression in both players,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live. “I think that in the measure that the competition advances, even though we’ve played 12 games, I hope they manage to find a regularity that corresponds with their qualities.”

James and Harrison displays help leave Leeds with reason for optimism

Harrison looked a lot more like his old self in the draw with Leicester City before the international break, particularly in the first-half.

And James has threatened to make a real impact since his arrival at Elland Road.

Sunday provided a glimpse of the impact that the pair can make. And when you add Raphinha to the mix, Leeds will boast some much-needed depth in those wide areas for a crucial part of the season.
