Bielsa must not rush Roofe back from injury for Blackburn clash

Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe has declared himself fit to take on Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

In Saturday’s early Championship match, Leeds travel to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn.

And Roofe is relishing the chance to return to action after missing several matches with an injury.

Roofe has told the club’s official website that he hopes to be involved in the Blackburn game.

But Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa must resist the urge to rush him back into action. Leeds cannot afford to have Roofe missing for a large chunk of the season.

And he played in an under-23 game recently as he approaches full fitness, scoring in that.

Roofe has been on fire this season and Leeds fans will want him to be fully fit for the middle part of the campaign.

The international break has allowed Roofe to have an extended break without missing too many matches.

But Bielsa cannot risk starting the former Oxford United striker against Blackburn. It just might be too soon for him.

Instead, Tyler Roberts should continue in the striker role. If deemed fit enough, Roofe can be used as an impact substitute but it is too early to give him a full 90 minute role.
