Tottenham’s hunt for a successor to Jose Mourinho is seemingly not going to plan, with managerialism targets dropping out of contention left, right and centre.
RB Leipzig manager, who The Independent reported was Spurs’ top target for the role has since agreed to join Bayern Munich in the summer, whilst Ajax coach Erik ten Hag, who The Guardian claimed was also highly touted amongst those at Tottenham to take the job, has since signed a new deal with the Dutch giants.

The list of potential managers is dwindling more by the day, yet one name continues to be linked with Tottenham ever since Mourinho was dismissed by the club, that man being England manager Gareth Southgate.
The Evening Standard recently reported that Southgate is ‘flattered’ by the interest from Spurs, yet he would only take the job should he find himself sacked by the FA this summer if England under-perform at EURO 2020, with the British nation one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

Indeed, the mere mention of the Three Lions man taking over at Tottenham results in fans immediately shuddering and crying out for anyone else, as seen in these tweets below from supporters when reports have linked Southgate to the vacant managerial position…

Yet these reactions seem to be uncalled for. After all, Southgate is still a manager who has proved with England that he is capable of coaching big-name players in massive tournaments, with the former Middlesbrough boss guiding the Three Lions to their first World Cup semi-final in over 30 years in 2018, losing in extra-time to Croatia.

One player who also believes in Southgate is England captain and Spurs striker Harry Kane, who told FIFA.com ahead of the 2018 World Cup: “Gareth’s great, I worked with him at the U-21s as well, so we have a good understanding. He’s brave, he tries to press, plays attacking football. I think he’s done really well since he’s come into the job.”
Southgate might not be supporters’ first choice as to who should take the manager role next season, yet the England manager can be viewed as a viable candidate for the job given his impressive record on a national level in recent years as well as his great relationship with Tottenham’s key man, which could be crucial in keeping Kane at the club beyond this summer.
