Bettinelli to Southampton should prompt Leeds to move for Gunn
Southampton are keen on signing Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, according to The Daily Mail.
Bettinelli is playing second fiddle to Sergio Rico at the moment at Fulham and could be about to leave in January.
And Southampton are interested in the 26-year-old, despite having Alex McCarthy, Fraser Forster and Angus Gunn on their books.
If the Saints land Bettinelli, that could make Gunn available for loan in the January window.
Gunn was reportedly a target for Leeds United in the summer, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.
But instead of heading anywhere on loan, he moved away from Manchester City permanently and signed for Southampton.
After Gunn impressed for Norwich City last season during a season-long loan, this could be a perfect short-term fix for Leeds.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been their number one choice this season but his performances have been hit and miss, while reserve option Jamal Blackman’s season has ended with a broken leg.
Gunn would add competition for places with Peacock-Farrell, after helping the Canaries to 15 clean sheets last season, according to Squawka.
The England under-21 international is a talented goalkeeper but game time has been limited at Southampton.
The 22-year-old has only managed three cup appearances this season, keeping two clean sheets.
If he joined Leeds, Gunn would seriously bolster their chances of winning promotion by adding reliability between the sticks.
Bettinelli’s potential move to the south coast could pave the way for Leeds to swoop in January.
