‘Better than Carroll’, ‘first team pls’: Some Newcastle fans wowed by 19-year-old’s latest U23s display
A number of Newcastle United fans have been praising Magpies academy attacker Stan Flaherty following his impressive performance for the Under-23s on Monday.
The 19-year-old has been with Newcastle since January 2020, joining the St James’ Park outfit’s academy from Arsenal.
Flaherty began life at Newcastle in the Under-18s but moved up to Under-23 level this season, and has impressed with seven goals and two assists from just 14 appearances.

On Monday, the Magpies lost 2-1 to Reading’s U23s in their Premier League 2 clash at Little Benton.
Thierry Nevers and Femi Azeez netted in the first half for the Royals, but Flaherty halved the deficit in the 52nd minute.
The Magpies gem was on hand to pounce on a loose ball and tuck home after Lucas as De Bolleβs through ball almost found Dylan Stephenson.
Given Callum Wilson is currently injured and Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle are struggling, you’ve got to wonder whether Flaherty could be handed a chance at senior level.
Some Newcastle fans are certainly pleased with the academy star’s latest efforts, praising him on Twitter:
