‘Best player’ – Tottenham fans react to performance of Erik Lamela against Manchester United

Tottenham reopened their Premier League campaign last night with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in north London and a number of fans have been reacting to the performance of Erik Lamela.

The Argentinian was deployed in a more central role by Jose Mourinho. His job was, essentially, to provide a link between midfield and Harry Kane. Usually a wide player, it was certainly something different for the 28-year-old.

But Lamela seemed to adapt pretty well to the role. Despite a few wayward passes and weary legs towards the end of his stint on the pitch, the Spurs man did look a threat at times.

If he can continue to improve his knowledge of the position and get some more minutes, then Mourinho may well have fallen on something for his team.

Lamela has been around long enough now that his experience might count in that role. Players in a number ten type position are often credited with having a good football brain and Lamela showed glimpses last night.

Spurs fans, then, were all over Twitter talking about his performance. And while there were some criticisms, the majority of Tottenham supporters seemed to appreciate the effort from Lamela.
