‘Best player on the park’: Some Rangers fans in awe of ‘tremendous’ outfielder’s display v Celtic

A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have waxed lyrical about Leon Balogun’s impressive display for Steven Gerrard’s charges at Ibrox today.

The 32-year-old was given the nod in the Gers back line ahead of Filip Helander in Saturday’s Old Firm clash with Celtic.

Rangers ran out 1-0 winners over their Glasgow rivals, extending their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to a gargantuan 19 points.

In addition, the Light Blues have won 20 out of their 22 league games this term, drawing the other two.

And Gerrard’s decision to pick Balogun over Helander proved a great call as he put in a good shift up against Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard.

Admittedly, he took a little while to settle, making an early error to present a chance to Griffiths, but improved as the game went on.

Balogun’s pace was key as Celtic’s attackers looked to get in behind, and he made a superb block on Edouard’s 59th-minute shot, which no doubt prevented a goal.

Here is what some Rangers fans were saying about the summer signing on social media:

Callum McGregor’s own goal in the 70th minute, eight minutes after Nir Bitton was given a red card for bringing down Alfredo Morelos, proved the difference between the two sides.
