Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has taken to Twitter with a farewell message for Besiktas after his loan spell came to an end, which saw plenty of their fans thank and praise him for his efforts.
The 28-year-old left the Emirates Stadium last summer for a season-long loan with the Turkish giants, becoming a mainstay of their squad and making 36 appearances in all competitions.
Of those, 27 came in the Superlig, Elneny scoring one goal and registering four assists as the Black Eagles finished third in the table to seal Champions League qualification.
As reported by Goal.com, he averaged 88 minutes per game in the Super Lig, 1.0 interceptions, 1.3 tackles and 1.1 clearances and did not commit any error leading to a shot, goal or a penalty concession.
Here is what Elneny wrote on social media on Thursday:
And what some Besiktas fans said in response:
Elneny’s future at Arsenal remains unclear, as he doesn’t appear to be in Mikel Arteta’s plans, particularly since his Gunners shirt number was recently given to William Saliba.
The Egypt international has made just 46 appearances for the Emirates Stadium side since joining from Swiss outfit FC Basel in 2016 for a reported £7million (The Independent).
That said, Elneny is said to have several suitors, with Besiktas reportedly wanting him permanently and fellow Turkish sides Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor linked with him too (Goal.com).
