'Best player I have seen in real life': Some Newcastle fans wowed by 'mad' transfer rumour

A number of Newcastle United fans have welcomed speculation linking the Magpies with Philippe Coutinho.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the new Newcastle owners have identified the Barcelona ace as a potential maiden marquee signing.

Indeed, Sport claims that Coutinho’s representatives held talks with Newcastle’s new owners earlier this year prior to the takeover.

The Magpies are under new ownership as a Saudi-led consortium took over the club from Mike Ashley on Thursday.

Co-owner Amanda Staveley said the consortium has “the same ambitions as Manchester City and PSG” in terms of success on the pitch.

While she stressed that turning Newcastle into a major footballing power would take time, Coutinho isn’t an unrealistic target at this moment in time.

The 29-year-old hasn’t had the best of times at Camp Nou and is currently a rotation player under Ronald Koeman.

Barca reportedly tried to sell the former Liverpool ace in the summer, asking for 50m Euro (around £42.5million).

The Sport report also claims Coutinho would be interested in a move to the North East and a return to the Premier League.

Admittedly, the Brazilian is currently said to be on a 20m Euro per year (around £327,000-a-week) salary.

However, given the wealth behind the new Magpies owners, that may not be too much of a stumbling block.

And some Newcastle fans are certainly eager to see Coutinho at SJP:
