Everton defender Leighton Baines has committed his future to the club for one more year. Baines has put pen-to-paper on a new one-year contract extension, Everton’s official website confirmed.

The popular left-back has been a long-term servant at Everton. After joining from Wigan Athletic, the ex-England international is now preparing for his 13th season at the Merseyside club.

Baines has now played 411 games for the Toffees, racking up a tally of 38 goals and 67 assists. But he only managed eight outings last season as he enters the final years of his career.

Nevertheless, the 34-year-old has signed an extension. Baines’ role is to provide cover in the left-back department while Lucas Digne occupies the starting spot.

Baines’ extension gives Marco Silva a one-year solution until he either promotes Antonee Robinson or signs a new left-back for the future. But Brendan Galloway and Luke Garbutt could be on their way out after Baines was given the nod.
