Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club made an announcement involving Callum Wilson and Joelinton.
What’s the story?
Well, Newcastle announced earlier today that Wilson and Joelinton would be swapping shirt numbers ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
The Brazilian will be taking the No.7 shirt, which Andy Carroll wore during the 2020/21 season.
In Wilson’s case, he has taken the No.9 shirt from Joelinton.
The South American has owned the number ever since his £40m move from TSG Hoffenheim in 2019.
Now, he will look to follow in the footsteps of players like Joey Barton, Jermaine Jenas and Paul Gascoigne, all of whom have worn the number.
Losing No.9 will hopefully help Joelinton

Some might not believe that shirt numbers mean a great deal in football.
However, there can often be pressure attached to a number, depending on who has worn it before.
In Joelinton’s case, the No.9 shirt must’ve weighed quite heavily on his shoulders considering the great Alan Shearer once owned it.

Coupled with his £40m transfer fee, who knows what was going on in Joelinton’s mind.
Hopefully, we’ll see a different Joelinton next season in the No.7 shirt.
For now, let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about the club’s announcement…
