Everton fans have wished Ryan Astley well after hearing the news that the Toffees academy graduate has signed a new contract at Goodison Park.

The Blues made the announcement on Friday, confirming that the Everton Under-23s Player of the Year has signed a new two-year deal.

Astley is a “strong, composed defender with impressive quality on the ball” as well as “considerable potential”, according to the Everton website.

He made his debut for the Toffees’ U23s in March 2018 at just 16 years old, in a Premier League 2 trip to Sunderland’s U23s.

Manager David Unsworth was so impressed with Astley’s display, he deemed it a “magnificent performance”.

He is now a regular in Unsworth’s team, and clocked up 16 PL2 appearances last term.

Astley also received his first call-up to the Wales Under-21 squad last October, testament to his hard work and talent.

And in March, he received his first call-up to the Everton first team, making the bench against Southampton.
