Liverpool have released an update on Alisson Becker’s condition, confirming that the goalkeeper will miss the Reds’ UEFA Super Cup clash against Chelsea on Wednesday.

The Brazilian shot-stopper was forced from the field before half-time in Liverpool’s season opener against Norwich City on Friday night. Summer signing Adrian came on in Alisson’s place and is expected to retain a starting place until the 42-cap Brazil international returns to full fitness.

Following the clash with the Canaries, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that it was an issue with Alisson’s calf that meant he had to be withdrawn. A scan to ascertain the full extent of the damage will be conducted soon.

If the injury does prove to be serious, then Adrian can expect a lengthy run in the first team. Following Simon Mignolet’s summer exit, the Spaniard is now the only senior ‘keeper in the squad, aside from Alisson.

Klopp will not be concerned about having to rely on the former West Ham man. In six seasons with the Hammers, the 32-year-old made 150 appearances. He established himself as a consistent and impressive goalkeeper in that time.

However, Alisson is certainly the first choice option at Anfield. It is undeniably a blow for the Reds that he has already been sidelined so early in the campaign.

Following the release of the update on the situation, plenty of Liverpool fans took to Twitter to react to the news.
